(almost) red dresses

There's a self-imposed challenge in action these days, involving some Red Dresses which have been neglected. So I've decided to wear all of them, at least once. I started with a pair of dresses which include some other colors, as they're easier to mix and match.
First outfit was worn in a quite mild day, it was 1ºC, not so bad!. I think it looks quite put together. Some classic black&white with red!
Second outfit doesn't look put together anyway and it's fine for me too. I picked some bold bright colors to go with my (kinda summer) dress, and some serious layering too, because it was cold (-6ºc) and windy. I dislike how the blue leggings look, all wrinkled, but they're cozy anyway. I think these are quite different styles!

Tengo en marcha un reto que me he impuesto, pensando en todos esos vestidos rojos que tengo un poco abandonados. Así que he decidido ponérmelos todos, al menos una vez. Y he empezado con este par de vestidos que tienen rojo pero también otros colores, así que son más fáciles de mezclar y combinar. El primer vestido rojo lo llevé en un día bastante templado (1ºC), no hacía muy malo!, y creo que resulta de un estilo muy 'arreglado', el clásico blancoYnegro con rojo. El segundo, en cambio, no es de ese estilo para nada, y también me parece bien. Elegí unos cuantos colores vivos que fueran con el vestido, que es más bien de verano, así que hay capas y capas porque hacía fresquete (-6ºC) y con mucho viento. Los leggings azules no me gusta cómo quedan de arrugados, pero son muy cómodos. Al final, dos estilos bien diferentes!

green dress (twice)

I worn this same dress twice in a row, and this is something that I'm used to do very frequently. I like to mix and match different color combos around a new garment, from a sure-fire combo to more unexpected ones.
This dress was certainly an impulsive purchase, it was bought at Spitalfields Market in June, and I think that this chartreuse/olive green caught my eye, standing out from a lot of colorful wax prints. I've realized that many colors which were not my cup of tea, are now very appealing to me.
So I picked my mustard cardi and trusty tan boots to be worn with this dress. And then I found this matchy-matchy scarf in my shawls box, a happy find! (my shawls/scarves box is very well assorted!).
The next day I decided that adding some purple would be more interesting and more 'me' too!. And it was not so cold, so I went for a walk and some coffee and then Mr.A. took my pictures (notice: first coffee, then stuff). Finally, it was pretty colder than I expected, and I missed a jacket or cardi, but coffee and treats were really good so I enjoyed the morning anyway!

Me puse el mismo vestido dos veces casi seguidas, y esto es algo que suelo hacer con frecuencia. Me gusta probar a mezclar y combinar diferentes colores alrededor de una misma prenda, desde la combinación más segura a algunas más inesperadas.
Este vestido fue una compra impulsiva, de cuando estuvimos en Londres en Junio, en Spitalfields Market, y creo que fue este color verde oliva/manzana lo que me llamó la atención, de todo el montón de estampados y colores que había. Me he dado cuenta de que muchos colores que antes no eran de mi gusto, ahora me van atrayendo cada vez más.
Así que elegí una chaqueta color mostaza y mis clásicas botas marrones, y luego encontré esta bufanda totalmente a juego, en la caja de los chales, un feliz encuentro! (la verdad, mi caja de los chales/bufandas está muy bien surtida!)
Para el día siguiente, decidí que me convenía añadirle morado, más interesante y más yo misma. Y, como no hacía tanto frío, me fuí a dar una vuelta y a tomar un café, y luego Mr.A. me sacó unas fotos (nótese: primero el café, luego, lo demás). Al final, hacía más frío de lo que me esperaba, y eché de menos una chaqueta, pero el café con su bocatita estuvo muy bien, así que la mañana resultó genial de todos modos.

simply polka dots

It has been really cold these days, so I've been wearing my winter coats over some serious layering. This is a second- hand faux-fur coat, which is not the most comfortable one (too heavy!), but it's warm and (decadently) elegant. So it's a good piece to add some interest to cold days. And it was really cold the day I worn it!.
I worn a short sleeved cardi, because of the touch of red, and it was not a very sensible decision for a cold day. So I covered partially my arms with (long) crochet mittens. However, it would have been better to wear long sleeves!

Ha estado haciendo mucho frío estos días, así que me he puesto unas cuantas capas de ropa bajo los abrigos de invierno, pero capas en plan muy serio!. Este abrigo es de segunda mano y es de falso astracán, no es que sea de lo más cómodo, porque pesa, pero da calor y tiene un aire entre decadente y elegante. Así que le da un poco de interés a los días más fríos. Y hacía frío de verdad el día que me lo puse!
También llevaba una chaqueta de manga corta, por el toque de color rojo, y no es una buena idea para un día frío. Incluso aunque llevase mitones largos que me cubrían (en parte) los brazos, hubiera sido mejor llevar mangas largas.

sunny inside

These are two outfits I worn last week, and both of them were worn under a black coat, which I thought it was not interesting enough to be photographed. You know, black coats are like a uniform in this bleak midwinter!
I took some pics at home, as it was a really rainy and windy day, very dark, even if my pics look very brightly-lit. And yes, those are shorts worn by a middle aged (fat) woman. No fashion police arrested me yet. I made these shorts from an old pair of black 'corporate' pants, and I think it was a pretty good idea as I couldn't imagine why I owned a pair of corporate pants!.



Esto es lo que llevé en dos ocasiones distintas, la semana pasada, pero ni siquiera se me ocurrió fotografiar el abrigo negro que llevaba, no me pareció interesante. Ya sabéis, un abrigo negro es como un uniforme en estos días de invierno.
Tuve que tomar algunas fotos en casa, el tiempo no acompañaba, lluvia, viento, un día oscurísimo, aunque parezca que las fotos están muy iluminadas. Y sí, eso que véis es una señora de mediana edad llevando shorts. Y no se abrieron los cielos ni nada. Ni me paró la policía de la moda. Me hice estos pantaloncillos recortando unos típicos pantalones de vestir, de traje, y creo que fue una buena idea, porque ni idea de porqué tenía yo unos pantalones así.




This is what I worn to go to the cinema with Mr.A. As a huge fan of comfort, I like to wear a full skirt if I'm going to be seated for a while, even better if it's a wrinkle-free dress. Comfy shoes are also very appreciated!. I like particularly this dress, it was one of my first attempts to sew something more difficult than a three seams skirt!.

purple & ankle boots

I was not used to wear ankle boots with my midi skirts, as I thought (and still do) that they make my legs look shorter (and you know, that's not flattering!). But I'm embracing a more relaxed style, more based on colors and impressions than guided by rules and proportions. Actually, I should had worn a pair of below-the-knee boots, but it was not so cold, and I was too lazy to go to my lumber room and unpack some big boxes where winter boots are. I think that one of the reasons to not buy any other pair of below-the-knee boots is because they're a storage nightmare. Even when they're outside their boxes, they take up much space!
Anyway, some snow is going to fall over us pretty soon, so winter boots will go for a walk!

No solía llevar botines con las faldas a media pierna, pensaba (y sigo pensándolo) que hacen las piernas cortas, y ya sabéis que eso no favorece nada (qué horror!). Pero estoy mucho más relajada y creo que mi estilo se basa más en el color y la impresión general que en las normas y las proporciones. En realidad, debería haberme puesto unas botas altas, pero tampoco hacía tanto frío, y además, me dió pereza irme al trastero a mover las cajas grandes de las botas de invierno. Creo que una de las razones por las que no compro más botas altas es porque son una pesadilla para almacenarlas. Incluso cuando no están en sus (enormes) cajas, siguen ocupando muchísimo espacio!
De todas maneras, ya está anunciada nieve muy pronto, así que las botas de inverno saldrán a la palestra!

This is what I worn some days ago when it was sunny and I decided to wear some lighter layers. So this purple coat went for another walk, with some violet color for a little bit of contrast. I like almost every shade of purple and violet, but they're sometimes difficult to mix and match, so I decided to keep it simple and monochromatic. The crochet waistcoat was made ages ago, when I was a diligent knitter (too lazy now!)
And I took a pic showing you my ankle and some purple hosiery, such a sassiness!

Esto es lo que me puse hace unos días, cuando hacía sol y decidí llevar menos capas de ropa. Así que saqué a dar una vuelta el abrigo morado otra vez, con un toque de violeta para darle contraste. Me gustan casi todos los tonos de morado y violeta, pero a veces son difíciles de mezclar y combinar, así que decidí dejarlo sencillo y monocromático. El chaleco de ganchillo es de hace siglos, de cuando tenía paciencia (ahora me daría muchísima pereza)
Y me saqué una foto enseñando el tobillo y un poquito de enagua, muy picante!

purple layers

It is not news that I like layers, and I'm used to wear two coats or two jackets, one under the other. I own some coats which are not suitable for real winter, but they could be worn as long jackets under a puff coat. My tip is to pay attention to proportion and comfort.
I don't want to look like somebody who dressed up in the darkness (even if I do it, because I dress up before dawn!), and tails of fabric poking out a coat can look really funny. I like a 'short over long' ensemble, asymmetric pieces and edgy style, but that's not the point!
Comfort is also very important to me, because I don't want to feel inmovilized into my clothes. I'm one of that strange persons who are used to take buses, climb stairs or walk through city parks (I think that some designers have decided to ignore our Real Life). So I pay attention to fitting; my puff coats are a little bit roomy, on the contrary, my light coats are usually fitted, so they're perfect for layering.

No es noticia que me gustan las superposiciones, y que suelo ponerme dos abrigos o dos chaquetas una encima de la otra. Tengo unos cuantos abrigos que no sirven tal cual para invierno, pero que pueden llevarse a modo de chaqueta debajo de un acolchado. El truco es cuidar de las proporciones y de la comodidad.
No quiero que parezca que me he vestido a oscuras (aunque en realidad sí que lo hago, porque es de noche todavía cuando me visto!) y llevar 'colas' de tela asomando por debajo del abrigo es algo chocante. Me gusta la superposición de prendas cortas sobre otras largas, las asimetrías y el estilo arriesgado, pero este no es el caso!
También me importa el confort, porque no me apetece sentirme inmovilizada de tanta ropa. Soy de esa gente tan rara que suele usar el transporte público, subir escaleras o cruzar por un parque (creo que algunos diseñadores han decidido ignorar que vivimos en la Vida Real). Así que me fijo en cómo se ajusta la ropa: los acolchados suelen quedarme un poquito flojos, en cambio, las chaquetas y abrigos ligeros son más ajustados, así que pueden superponerse.

Recap: winter layers

It has been a nice (and long) holiday, there were visitors at home and some travels too, so I've been really disconnected. But I made the most of my free time to have a look at my winter wardrobe, as I've been feeling a certain lack of enthusiasm and I don't want to get stuck on a repetitive winter style. I've been looking for some inspiration, rummagging through old outfits, wondering what I was used to wear in the bleak midwinter. Then I've picked some outfits, as a starting point, and who knows what will happen!. I think that some colorful pants, full skirts and fabulous black&white are my favorite options to fight against all that winter dullness!

Han sido unas largas y estupendas vacaciones, con visitas en casa y algunos viajes también, así que he estado desconectada del todo. Pero he aprovechado mi tiempo libre para echarle un vistazo al armario invernal, porque he estado sintiendo cierta falta de entusiasmo y no tengo ganas de quedarme atascada en un estilo repetitivo, que es muy fácil. He estado buscando inspiración revolviendo entre lo que solía llevar en anteriores inviernos, y he elegido algunas cosas como punto de partida, y quién sabe qué pasará luego. Creo que los pantalones de color vivo, faldas de vuelo y bastente blanco&negro serán mis mejores opciones para combatir cualquier abatimiento invernal.

White jeans / Vaqueros blancos
I'm used to wear white jeans even in winter, just they're thick cotton pants (and quite warm too). I know that there're some rules about what's appropriate, flattering and lots of other stuff. Do you really care about it!?

Llevo vaqueros blancos en invierno, sí, sólo que son de algodón bien grueso y bastante abrigados. Ya sé que hay un montón de consideraciones sobre si son apropiados, favorecedores y blabla, pero realmente ¿a quién le importa?

Purple pants / Pantalón morado
As a huge fan of purple, I always own (at least) a pair of purple pants. They're versatile, interesting and, obviously, they're purple!!

Como me encanta el morado, siempre tengo (por lo menos) un par de pantalones de este color. Son versátiles, interesantes y, evidentemente, son morados y eso ya es genial!

What could I say about this?. I love a full skirt. I know they would look better with heels but, once more, who cares about it!

Black&White / Blanco&Negro
Black and white (with some red details) is a classic color combo, in my book. But it could be worn with any other bold bright color as orange, klein blue or yellow. Because I like to wear black too, but I like to wear it deliberately, not as a compulsory winter color.

Blanco y negro, con un toque de rojo, es una combinación de colores clásica, en mi opinión. Pero podría llevarse con cualquier otro color liso y brillante, naranja, azul klein o amarillo vivo.
Me gusta vestir de negro también, pero me gusta hacerlo deliberadamente, no como si el negro fuese el color por defecto.
