neutral turquoise

The temperatures are rising, so I'm embracing a summery attitude, and wearing more tunics and trousers. It's a really sensible option, as opaques are not comfortable anymore and I'm not brave enough to go out barelegged (even if I've been tempted). So I've worn some favourite neutral trousers. My own kind of neutral, obviously, but it matches everything in my wardrobe!.

This crochet project started back in november2020 and I had to let it rest for a while until my wrist felt better. I'm taking it easy anyway, crocheting some flowers and adding them to the piece, which is supposed to be a waistcoat, growing it quite organically.

Este proyecto de ganchillo lo empecé allá por noviembre del año pasado, pero lo dejé por culpa de mi problema de muñeca. Y ahora que estoy mejor, he vuelto con ello, aunque me lo tomo con calma, lo voy haciendo sobre la marcha, añadiendo flores según las voy acabando. Se supone que va a ser un chaleco.

This is a lovely plaza, built around 1910, with some beautiful buildings that once were the local newspaper headquarters. There was also a theatre on one side, now a cinema which is closed due to the situation (I miss it!). I think these are some magnificent balconies!

spring sunshine

I'm keeping my quiet lifestyle and trying to spend more time outdoors, as we've had some sunny evenings. I've even worn my own sun on my lapel!.

Sigo llevando una vida muy tranquila, tratando de pasar más tiempo fuera de casa, sobre todo en las tardes soleadas. Incluso me he puesto el sol en la solapa!.

Thanks to your comments I've realised that Spring Asthenia is not a well known condition, even if it's more widespread than expected. Spring Asthenia is a seasonal disorder, caused by changes in luminosity and temperature, and it usually produces sadness, anxiety, lack of energy, headaches and some other physical symptoms. Both allergies and Daylight Savings make it worse!. There are some simple things we can do to improve our mood, like keeping a healthy diet or enjoying outdoor activities, excursions, a short travel, something that resets yourself!

Gracias a los comentarios, he visto que la Astenia primaveral (y también aquí), no parece ser conocida, aunque afecta a mucha gente. Los cambios de estación pueden producir mucho malestar, que se agrava con las alergias y el cambio de hora, y es bueno saberlo.

blue spring

The weather is becoming more spring-like, which usually means that spring asthenia comes up, so I'm trying my best to avoid the most annoying symptoms. Some time ago I realised that a trip to a southern place with lots of sunshine and some excursions in the nature worked a miracle, but this is not possible in these covid times. So I've been faking it by going for a walk almost every evening, having some melatonin-tryptophan supplements and eating even healthier than usual. I'm also keeping myself away from computer after work, so I've been neglecting my blogging and commenting (sorry!, but it's for a good reason). I'm having troubles with comments too, sometimes they are deleted other times doubled, which is frustrating. On a happier note, my pansies and geraniums are in bloom and I'm considering a visit to the garden center to shop some gerberas and more geraniums. Even small balcony pots can create a green space to enjoy!.

Según mejora el tiempo y se vuelve más primaveral, más se acerca la época de la astenia, así que toca esforzarse por evitar los síntomas más molestos. Hace algún tiempo descubrí que lo que funcionaba de maravilla era pasar unos días en algún lugar más al sur, donde la estación esté ya avanzada, más luminosidad, y hacer unas excursiones al aire libre. Pero ahora mismo, no se puede, así que puedo intentar engañar un poco, saliendo a caminar cada tarde, tomando suplementos de melatonina triptófano y comiendo incluso más saludablemente que de costumbre. También procuro no utilizar el ordenador fuera del trabajo, así que tengo todo esto un poco abandonado (pero es por buenas razones!). También estoy teniendo problemas con los comentarios, a veces desaparecen y otras se repiten, es fastidioso. Cambiando a un asunto más alegre, estoy contenta con mis geranios y pensamientos que están en plena floración, así que tengo pensado ir al vivero a comprar más geranios y unas gerberas. Sólo con jardineras de balcón también se puede tener un espacio verde con unas flores que te gusten.

back to black

On Friday, I wore my recently sewed trousers for the first time. It has taken me some weeks to sew them, even if they're simple pyjama-like trousers. But I'm not particularly skilled, and I've decided to take it easy and enjoy the process (instead of stress myself the hell out over something I supposedly make as a hobby). I picked some funky 70's vibe accessories, like this vintage waistcoat that my mom gave to me. It's a fur waistcoat that she wore back in the early 80's and rocked it for sure, it has a distinctive style that makes me feel like a million bucks.
These brass and bronze bracelets are also homegrown vintage, as they have been around since I was a teenager (sigh). The massive pendant has been neglected for years, because its leather cord was too short, but I took it to a specialized haberdashery and pick a new chain, so now it's completely functional. I'm not a huge fan of golden jewellery, so I preferred a bronze colour chain that could match other pieces I already own. Some small changes make a difference!

El viernes estrené mis pantalones recientemente terminados de coser, que me habían llevado varias semanas, aunque sean unos pantalones tipo pijama bien fáciles. Pero tampoco soy muy hábil cosiendo, y además he decidido hacer las cosas relajadamente, y con calma, en vez de estresarme muchísimo con algo que se supone que hago como entretenimiento. Elegí algunos accesorios con un toque setentero funky, como este chaleco vintage que me dió mi madre. Es un chaleco de piel que ella se ponía a principios de los ochenta, muy molón, y que tiene ese estilo característico que te da muchísimo empaque!.
Los brazaletes de latón y bronce son también de mi propia cosecha vintage, porque los tengo desde que estuvieron de moda allá por los ochenta. El colgante es bastante nuevo, pero no me lo he puesto porque el cordón que tenía era corto, así que lo llevé a una mercería especializada y le puse una cadena color bronce nueva, y ahora ya está operativo. Elegí un color bronce porque no me gusta nada el dorado, y este pequeño cambio marca la diferencia. De nuevo queda claro que no hay que descartar rápidamente ninguna cosa sin ver si se puede reparar o modificar.

------Going back in time!. I'm doing a flashback in this waistcoat and realised it has been worn for more than ten years. Most outfits are pretty similar and built around any black dress, but there is some Red Colour too and black and white stripes. I'm amazed that I wore this piece so many times!.

Echando la vista atrás, he revisado cuántas veces me he puesto este chaleco de piel, y resulta que han sido más de diez años de uso. La mayoría de veces va sobre un vestido negro, pero también hay detalles en color rojo o algunas rayas en blanco y negro. Es sorprendente qué buen uso le estoy dando!

kinda athleisure

My sport gear is not really different from usual outfits. Actually, I wear trainers/sneakers almost everyday because of my orthotics and fussy feet. I've always worn comfy shoes or boots, but I've got used to sneakers really quickly and enthusiastically bought some pairs in different colours (my feet are happy with them!). And I think that a pair of comfy shoes is all you need for a good walk through urban paths or easy hiking trails. Some comfy clothes are also welcome. But I don't need a professional equipment nor looking like going to hike the Himalayas. I'm just walking on an urban path!

Mi ropa para actividades deportivas es prácticamente igual que mi ropa diaria. En realidad, llevo zapatillas deportivas casi a diario, por causa de mis plantillas ortopédicas y problemas varios. Siempre he sido partidaria del calzado cómodo, pero me he acostumbrado a las zapatillas rápidamente y enseguida me he entusiasmado comprándolas en varios colores (y mis pies están contentos!). Creo que lo único que necesitas para salir a caminar por parques urbanos o senderos fáciles es calzado cómodo. También viene bien ropa cómoda. Pero no necesito un atuendo profesional ni llevar equipamiento como para subir al Himalaya, cuando voy simplemente por un paseo en la ciudad.

I've tried a chicken shawarma recipe by Nigella and loved it, particularly because (for the first time in my life) I had all the ingredients on hand in my kitchen cupboards. Isn't it incredible?
I roasted some chicken in bulk to have leftovers to use through the whole week, and Mr.A. agreed that it's a delicious dish that can be served with assorted veggies, sauces and side dishes (not only over some pita bread). We had it for dinner with some french beans and a yogourth and tahine sauce. You can see we had some strawberries for dessert too.
I had never cooked a Middle Eastern recipe at home, but it feels quite similar to some traditional spanish recipes (lots of garlic and spices, so it's not everybody's cup of tea!).

He probado una receta de pollo shawarma (aquí) y nos ha gustado mucho, sobre todo porque (por primera vez en mi vida) tenía todos los ingredientes a mano en el armario de la cocina. Algo increíble. Hice una buena cantidad en el horno, para que quedasen sobras con las que cocinar variantes durante la semana y hemos descubierto que va bien con verduras variadas, salsas y acompañamientos, no sólo con el pan de pita. Esta vez el pollo va servido con judías verdes y una salsa de yogur y tahine. Y había fresas de postre!.
Nunca había intentado una receta de oriente medio en casa (me gusta mucho su cocina), pero utiliza algunos ingredientes familiares a la cocina española. No es para todos los gustos, lleva ajo y especias en cantidad!.

winter is for colours

In my book, black is just another colour (only deeper) and it's a colour that I still have a weakness for. Same for dark florals or any print on a black background. Actually, I wear a lot of black and a lot of other strong colours, as I think they are not mutually exclusive and I like to wear all of them the whole year long!. I'm not going to wear any dull colour that I dislike only because it's winter. Winter is for colours!.
I've worn trousers this week and a puffy jacket which has been really sensible for our chilly mornings (5ºC / 41ºF). Obviously, I'm still wearing tights under these summery trousers. But I've ventured to go out 'barelegged' on Thursday evening, as it was sunny and I went for a brisk walk. Probably there are some storms to come, but I'm making the most of every sunny day!

En mi opinión, el negro es un color más, uno muy intenso, y además es un color que aún es de mis favoritos. Incluyendo los estampados sobre un fondo negro. En realidad, llevo un montón de color negro y un montón de otros colores fuertes, porque creo que no son mutuamente excluyentes y porque me gustan siempre, verano o invierno. No me voy a poner colores lacios y aburridos sólo porque sea invierno, el invierno también es para llevar color.
Me he puesto algunos pantalones esta semana, con esta chaqueta acolchada que ha resultado muy útil en las mañanas fresquitas (5ºC). Claro está que sigo poniéndome medias debajo, pero algún día ya me he atrevido a llevar las piernas al aire, como el Jueves pasado, que hacía sol y salí a caminar, así que me pareció buena idea. Puede que aún quede invierno por delante, pero hay que sacarle partido a los días buenos.
