Winter Week

Last week was quite busy, but I was determined to keep on blogging, despite my erratic posting!. I've recapped my week in five outfits, which I wore Monday to Friday.
La semana pasada estuve bastante ocupada, pero he seguido decidida a mantener el blog, a pesar de que publico cuando buenamente puedo. He resumido la semana en cinco fotos de lo que llevé, de lunes a viernes.

Purple mood on Friday too, I wore my favourite 'faux suit'; this shirt and wide legged trousers are exactly the same colour, even if purchased months away from each other. Both are second hand finds at our local street market!.
El viernes seguimos en modo púrpura, me puse mi 'falso traje' favorito, esta camisa y pantalón ancho son exactamente del mismo color, aunque los compré con meses de distancia. Ambos son de segunda mano, del mercadillo.

I've been in denial for days, then anxious, and finally determined to keep myself focused on friendship, art, creativity, colour and joy. Don't know if this is frivolous (even if I believe that frivolity is totally necessary) but it's my own way to carry on. We have enough tedious experts who just drive us to fatalism. So I'll keep it lighthearted, thanks.

Sewing Projects

These trousers have been my last sewing project, I made them of a massive sarong. I had it since 2018, but I was not making the most of it. I had worn my sarong as a skirt (see here) but it was not versatile enough. So I used my usual pattern for wide legged trousers, made some mistakes, and managed to create a pair of trousers. My only concern is that they create static electricity when worn over tights: it means that they don't layer so nicely as expected!.

Estos pantalones han sido mi último proyecto de costura, los hice de un pareo-pañuelo gigantesco que tenía desde el 2018, pero que no usaba tanto como se merecía. Incluso me lo puse como falda (podéis verlo aquí), pero no le estaba sacando partido. Así que utilicé mi patrón para pantalones anchos, que es el único que sé hacer, cometí unos cuantos errores, pero me las arreglé para acabarlo. Lo único que me molesta es que crean electricidad estática cuando los llevo con medias debajo, así que no son tan versátiles para superposiciones como yo esperaba.

I've shreded this striped shirt and also shreded a piece of striped fabric, to create a crisscross. I was not happy with the fabric, so sprayed some bleach on it before using it.
I've been inspired by the fabulous Spy Girl and also looked at some designer pieces from viktor and rolf 2016. Still working on it, so it's too early to see if it's going to be even wearable (nowadays my shirt looks like an Arkham Asylum resident's pajamas!).

Hice tiras esta camisa de rayas y también hice tiras una tela de rayas que tenía, y las crucé. Antes de usar la tela, la rocié con lejía para crear diferentes tonos.
Me han inspirado la fabulosa Spy Girl y también esta colección de viktor and rolf 2016. Sigo trabajando en ello, así que es demasiado pronto para ver si el resultado será cuando menos 'ponible' (ahora mismo parece más bien un pijama, de los que llevaría un residente en el Arkham Asylum!)

routine & winter

The weather keeps on unseasonably sunny and sometimes even unseasonably hot, which results quite confusing for people and also confusing for nature. Some almond trees are blooming, there's a springlike atmosphere in the air, even if sometimes there's also a cold winter wind, so nature is sending mixed messages.
Probably it's time to give my wardrobe its first seasonal switch to keep it appropriate to the weather conditions. It's also a mood booster!. But I'd like to play safe and keep my winter coats on hand. You know, just in case winter rears its ugly head!

El tiempo sigue increíblemente soleado para esta época del año, y a veces increíblemente caluroso también, todo muy confuso para las personas y también para la naturaleza. Los almendros están floreciendo y hay un ambiente muy primaveral en el aire, aunque a veces también sopla un viento frío invernal, así que parece que la naturaleza envía mensajes contradictorios.
Puede que sea el momento de hacer un cambio de temporada en el armario y mantenerlo adecuado al clima. Siempre sirve para animar un poco!. Pero de momento habrá que ser prudente y dejar los abrigos a mano, por si acaso el invierno vuelve a asomar de nuevo.

Winter Week

As part of my good mood routine, I keep on dressing up everyday. It totally makes a difference. I don't always feel like dressing up in the mornings (sometimes it feels like an epic feat) so I have some 'emergency outfits' ready to go. They usually involve a favourite piece, sometimes in a new ensemble, and lots of colour. It's also important for me to be comfortable, so no pinching, no inconvenient shoes, nor freezing myself in a lightweight coat in a winter morning.
These are my 'emergency outfits' of the week, and such a busy week it has been. Lots of work at the office, then some walking and also some sewing. Not complaining, as those are relaxing and refreshing activities. I've started a new sewing project, 'deconstructing' a second hand shirt to create something different, a patchwork/mending work. Whatever it results, it is really entertaining (learning by doing!). Totally a Jack of All Trades myself, particularly the part of Master of None. ;DD

Sigo con mi rutina de arreglarme y vestirme cada día para mantener una buena actitud, y creo que es algo que marca la diferencia. No siempre estoy de humor para vestirme por las mañanas (a veces me parece una labor titánica) así que tengo unos conjuntos de emergencia listos para usarse. Suelen incluir alguna prenda favorita, a veces en una combinación novedosa, y montones de color. También es muy importante para mí la comodidad, así que nada de ropa que estrangula, nada de zapatos que hagan daño, y nada de congelarse en un abriguito fino en una mañana de invierno.
Estos son mis modelitos de emergencia de esta semana, y ha sido una semana ocupadísima. Mucho trabajo en la oficina, y luego caminar y también coser. No me quejo, porque estas son cosas que hago para relajarme y refrescarme. He empezado un proyecto de costura, deconstruyendo una camisa de segunda mano para hacer algo diferente, una especie de patchwork remendado. Salga como salga, me ha entretenido mucho y he aprendido haciéndolo. Totalmente aprendiza de todo, sobre todo en la parte de maestra de nada ;D

I'm not particularly happy with the proportions here, there are too many different lenghts, which makes me look shorter. But I like the colours and the 80's vibe.

No me entusiasman las proporciones aquí, hay demasiados largos diferentes, y eso siempre recorta la figura. Pero me gustan los colores y el estilo ochentero.

winter & skirts

I was looking forward to wear this new-to-me skirt. It was a recent find at the Sunday street market. I noticed the quality double knit, the pleated design, the bold colour!, but also noticed the size label which I looked at in dismay (42?). However its size didn't looked like a 42, knit had some stretch, and I convinced myself to give it a try at the amount of 2€, so took it home and gave it the 'special treatment'. Firstly, I put it in the freezer for a week (you can call me squeamish). Then machine washed it (spin cycle off) and dried it flat outdoors for some days. I think it was worth all the effort, as this is a wool skirt, warm and lovely to wear, and it fits me. Quality wool deserves some work!

Estaba deseando ponerme esta falda que compré de segunda mano en el mercadillo. Fue un hallazgo, enseguida me dí cuenta del color, el diseño tableado, el tejido de punto de doble capa, pero también ví enseguida que la talla era una 42, lo que me desanimó. Sin embargo, la talla no me parecía una 42 en absoluto, el punto tiene cierta elasticidad y me convencí a mi misma de darle una oportunidad porque total costaba 2€. Así que me la llevé a casa y le dí el 'tratamiento especial'. Primero, una semana en el congelador (podéis llamarme aprensiva). Luego un lavado en la lavadora, sin centrifugado, y ponerla a secar en horizontal en el balcón, durante unos días. Creo que vale la pena el esfuerzo, porque es una falda de lana de calidad, muy abrigadita y comodísima, y me va perfectamente. La lana buena se merece un poco de trabajo.

Another skirt was recently acquired, but not second-hand!, this is a new skirt by Snag. I've had problems to find bottoms in my usual second hand stalls and charities, so indulged myself with something new. I'm a happy customer (not sponsored).

Esta otra falda también ha sido una reciente adquisición, pero no es de segunda mano, ¡es Nueva!, la compré en Snag. He tenido problemas para encontrar partes de abajo en mis habituales tiendas de segunda mano, así que decidí permitirme algo nuevo. Soy una cliente contentísima (¡no patrocinada!).
