September & Luggage

This is what I wore for a walk to the public library and a coffee with a friend on a terrace, just something comfy!. Second hand dress, a necklace made by a local artisan, Chiruca sandals and usual straw bag shopped years ago at Etsy.
It has been another busy week at work, even if the hectic season is over!. But no complaining, I'll go on holiday soon!.

Esto es lo que me puse para un paseo hasta la biblioteca pública y un café con una amiga en una terraza, simplemente algo cómodo. Un vestido de segunda mano, collar de una artesana local, sandalias Chiruca, y el habitual bolso de paja que compré hace años en Etsy.

It's not easy to keep focused on daily life when holiday is around the corner. I'm getting ready for our annual travel to the south of Portugal and also realizing that my 'baggage mojo' is a little bit rusty. I've been a light packer for most of my life, as it happens when you have to travel on a shoestring. Even when we indulged in more 'luxurious' travels, I kept my luggage quite minimalistic (not so much as Mr.A. who is the lighter packer ever). But finally, I've been spoiled by travelling by car during last years, instead of taking a bus, train or plane as we used to do so frequently B.C. So it's taking me ages to decide what to put in my case, considering the unpredictable autumn weather and the different regions we're going to go through.
Finally, I've picked four dresses and a skirt, plus the dress I'll wear during the trip. Not so much if you consider we'll be out for a fortnight. I'm also taking two 'beach dresses' and a recently acquired button-up dress that could be worn both for the beach and for the house (probably I'll wear it as a robe most of the time). Most of my dresses were acquired second hand, or revamped of second hand clothes.


No es fácil concentrarse en la vida diaria cuando las vacaciones están a la vuelta de la esquina. Me estoy preparando para nuestro viaje anual al sur de Portugal y también me estoy dando cuenta de que estoy un poco oxidada a la hora de hacer maletas. He sido de llevar poco equipaje durante muchos años, también porque es lo que te pasa cuando viajas con presupuestos ajustados. Pero incluso cuando nos hemos permitido algún viaje más 'lujoso', he seguido haciendo maletas bastante pequeñas (no tanto como Mr.A. que es un minimalista!). Pero al final, el viajar tanto en coche durante los últimos años (en vez de tomar buses, trenes o aviones, como hacíamos más frecuentemente antes de la pandemia), me ha cambiado el chip, y ahora me está costando decidir qué meter en la maleta, considerando lo variado que es el tiempo en otoño, y que atravesamos varias regiones diferentes.
Finalmente, he elegido cuatro vestidos y una falda, además del vestido que llevaré puesto. No es tanto si consideramos que es para quince días. También llevo dos vestidos para la playa y una especie de vestido abotonado que compré hace poco, y que serviría igual para ir a la playa que como bata para ir por casa. Casi todos son de segunda mano o están hechos a partir de ropa de segunda mano.

These are the three bikinis I've picked, two of them by Snag (but 'customised' by adding a piece of fabric in the middle of the bikini top, modest as I am ;D). Some sunscreen, mosquito repellent, two striped fouta towels (less bulky than usual towels), and our rubber sandals. Obviously, I'm also packing my sunnies and two pairs of sandals, plus minimal bijouterie (a necklace and a bracelet), our ebooks, toiletries etc.

Llevo tres biquinis, dos de ellos de Snag, pero los he customizado un poco, añadiendo una tira de tela en medio del top, porque no me quedaba como me gusta. También hay crema protectora, repelente de mosquitos, y dos foutas de playa que son menos pesadas que las toallas, y sandalias de goma. Evidentemente, también llevo las gafas de sol, dos pares de sandalias, y algo de bisutería (un collar y una pulsera), los ebooks, neceser etc.

Stormy September

I'm going to tell you about the weather again, as it's still invading our conversations and our lives with every possible craziness. After last heatwave, we had a cold front which caused severe damages in the centre of the country, not the kind of rain we were looking forward to seeing. We still have storms every evening here, but we count ourselves lucky!. Hail has been quite small and localized so the fruits and wine harvest have not been affected (you know, many people depend on these industries).

De nuevo voy a hablar del tiempo, ya que parece invadir totalmente las conversaciones y nuestras vidas con toda clase de catástrofes. Después de la última ola de calor, llegó la gota fría causando grandes daños en el centro del país. Justamente este es el tipo de lluvia que no queríamos ver. Todavía tenemos tormentas cada tarde por aquí, pero nos contamos entre los afortunados. El granizo ha sido lo bastante pequeño y localizado como para no perjudicar las cosechas ni la vendimia, que, como sabéis, son una industria muy importante por aquí.

Orange jungle trousers to the rescue to cheer up my Monday. Totally effective. These are some comfy trousers, floaty, breathable, fab colour and they even have pockets, almost perfect in my book, only that they need to be ironed, sigh!. Second hand orange top, and second hand jacket, both came from Sunday street market. Sneakers by Reebok (old and battered). Usual straw bag, acquired at Etsy years ago. Necklace from a charity market.

Pantalón naranja con estampado jungla para animar el lunes. ¡Totalmente efectivo!. Este pantalón es cómodo, amplio, transpirable, con un color estupendo e incluso tiene bolsillos, ¡casi perfecto¡, pero sólo le falta no necesitar plancha (una lástima). La camiseta es de segunda mano y la chaqueta también, las dos del mercadillo del domingo. Zapatillas Reebok ya viejitas. Y el bolso de paja de siempre, comprado en Etsy hace años. Collar de un mercadillo solidario.

Not the most flattering ensemble, but I liked the colours and comfort, good enough for a long walk after work. No es que sea muy favorecedor, pero aún me gustan los colores y la comodidad de esta combinación que llevé para un largo paseo después del trabajo. I surprised my coworkers by wearing black, which was a shock for some of the newest ones at the office (they only have seen me in full colour!). I still like black colour, and I've wear similar outfits a lot of times (particularly when we have the 'not-so-summery' weather conditions). Second hand blouse, self sewed trousers, old shawl and a vintage necklace. Sandals by Skechers (old). Actually, I wore something similar next day, but didn't take any picture (bad blogger as I am).

Me comentaron en el trabajo que era raro verme de negro, sobre todo fue una sorpresa para los más nuevos en la oficina que sólo me habían visto a todo color. Todavía me gusta el color negro, y esta combinación me la he puesto muchas veces, sobre todo en estas épocas 'no tan veraniegas'. La blusa es de segunda mano, pantalón de costura propia, un chal antiguo y un collar vintage. Sandalias de Skechers. En realidad, me puse algo muy parecido al día siguiente, pero ni le saqué foto, porque me dió pereza.

Office chairs are Evil!, look what happened to my poor skirt last week. It was totally ragged by the wheels of my chair!. It's a lightweight fabric and now I have to mend it!. Please, beware of evil office chairs (and stairs too)!

Las sillas de oficina son Malignas!, mirad cómo me dejaron esta pobre falda que se pilló en las ruedas, ¡toda rasgada!. Es de una tela ligerísima y ahora tengo que darle un zurcido, un fastidio. Así que, ¡cuidado con las ruedas! (y con las escaleras, que son malignas también)

Goodbye August

Last heatwave lasted a week and kept most people secluded at their homes, as it was too hot to stay outdoors even in the evenings. Obviously, it was impossible to sleep (without air conditioning) when temperature was around 30ºC in the night and this was the principal theme of conversation: the heat, the best ways to keep it away, the air conditioning vs fan, the irritability and exhaustion. Sorry, but I didn't feel like taking photos of my heatwave capsule.
I'm glad that we've returned to 'normal' summer conditions, so social life is possible, also running errands, going for a walk or even sitting on a terrace (the good side of summertime!). You know, my life is so wild!

Esta última ola de calor duró una semana y la mayoría de la gente la pasó recluída en casa, hacía demasiado calor para estar en el exterior, incluso por la noche. Evidentemente, se hacía imposible dormir (sin aire acondicionado) con una temperatura de 30ºC ya de noche, y todas las conversaciones iban de lo mismo: el calor, las majores maneras de evitarlo, si aire o ventilador, la irritabilidad y el agotamiento que todos teníamos. Así que ni ganas tenía de sacarme fotos, y tampoco tenía nada distinto que mostrar.
Me alegra que hemos vuelto al verano 'normal', así que vuelve la vida social y ya se puede salir a hacer recados, caminar e incluso sentarse en una terraza, que es la parte buena del verano. ¡Si es que llevo una vida salvaje!

I went to have a blood test on Monday, so I wore a cardi as it was 7:30 in the morning and my cotton gauze dress is really lightweight. It's becoming a challenge to dress up for the day when we have a temperature of merely 12ºC in the morning and then it increases to the 30ºC. Layering to the rescue!.
After having my blood test, Mr.A. took me to have breakfast at a (posh) café and then I ran to work. And my cardi was into my bag the rest of the morning as temperatures increased. Dress by PuntRoma, sandals by Chiruca outlet.

El lunes fuí a hacerme un análisis de sangre, así que me puse una chaquetita y todo, porque eran las 7,30 de la mañana y este vestido de algodón es ligerísimo. Es un verdadero reto conseguir vestirse cómodamente para todo el día, cuando tenemos 12ºC cuando salgo y luego se pone el día a 30ºC. Toca poner y quitar capas!.
Después del análisis Mr.A. me llevó a desayunar a una cafetería del centro y luego me fui corriendo al trabajo. Y la chaquetita de ganchillo se quedó en mi bolso el resto de la mañana según subió la temperatura. El vestido es de PuntRoma, sandalias de Chiruca outlet.

Another layered outfit to go to work. Self sewed trousers, revamped blouse (second hand) and my seasonable crochet cardi. That cross body bag and bag strap were both retail shopped.

Otra vez poniéndose y quitándose capas de ropa, sobre todo esta chaquetita de ganchillo tan práctica para la época del año. Los pantalones son de costura casera y también reformé la blusa de segunda mano. El bolsito y la correa fueron compras en tiendas locales.

We had some rain too, and I wore my Seasalt jacket (only in the morning). That (second hand) striped blouse is a little bit classic for my style, but so comfy and I love its texture, so it's a keeper. Trousers were retail shopped. Sneakers by Adidas outlet (old). Vintage enamel brooch. Scarf was a present by Mom. Earrings from Eme.

Hemos tenido también lluvia, así que me puse mi chaqueta de Seasalt, aunque sólo por la mañana. La blusa de rayas (de segunda mano) es un poco clásica para mi estilo, pero es tan cómoda y tiene una textura tan gustosa que me la quedo. Los pantalones son de una tienda local. Zapatillas de Adidas outlet. Un broche de esmalte vintage. El pañuelo me lo regaló mi madre. Pendientes de Eme.

I wore my recently acquired black trousers again, so comfy and they even have pockets!. Jacket and blouse were both second hand finds. (Vintage) necklace, a present by my friend M. for my birthday. Some pins shopped at a local business (a glass of red wine and a pincho!, typically local!), and a badge from a taberna we use to visit (yes, it's a cat wearing a beret).

Me he puesto de nuevo estos pantalones negros que compré recientemente, son comodísimos, ¡si hasta tienen bolsillos!. La chaqueta y la blusa son de segunda mano. El collar (vintage) me lo regaló una amiga por mi cumple. Un par de pins de tienda local (nada más local que la copita de vino tinto y el pincho) y la chapita de una taberna que solemos visitar (sí, es un gato con una boina!).
